"There are no talks or conversations going on, or scheduled, with the Islamic Republic of Iran," Trump said in a post on Truth Social on Tuesday. "The Naval Blockade remains in full force and effect. The Hormuz Strait is open and operating."
The move follows President Trump's repeated assertions that the US controls the Strait of Hormuz and his suggestion that the area could potentially be designated as US territory.
President Trump's statement contrasts with Iran's position, which maintains that the Strait cannot be reopened until Washington fulfills the commitments outlined in a memorandum reached last June.
The deal’s 60-day deadline passed without significant progress, as Iran and the US continued to trade blame for the deal's collapse. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf declared that Tehran would not fully open the Strait until Washington meets Iran's conditions, including lifting port blockades, ending oil sanctions, unfreezing assets, and ceasing military operations against Iran.
