The US Navy delegation, comprising the USS George Washington aircraft carrier and two escort vessels, the guided-missile cruiser USS Robert Smalls (CG 62) and the guided-missile destroyer USS Shoup (DDG 86), docked at Tien Sa Port on Thursday, beginning a five-day visit to Vietnam.

During their stay in Da Nang, the command delegation will pay courtesy calls on the leaders of the Da Nang People's Committee and the Naval Region 3 Command.

Officers and crew members will take part in a number of community activities in the city, including cultural and sporting exchanges.

The visit by the US Navy carriers contribute to strengthening Vietnam-US relations in line with their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace, Cooperation and Sustainable Development.

It also demonstrates Vietnam's logistical and technical capacity to host visiting foreign naval vessels, while helping to promote the country's image and people to the international community.
