Following the welcome ceremony in Hanoi for the Polish guests, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and Prime Minister Donald Tusk held a restricted meeting before leading their respective high-level delegations in formal talks. The discussions focused on evaluating the results of bilateral cooperation to date and reaching an agreement on the direction for future collaboration.
During the talks, Prime Minister Hung welcomed Prime Minister Tusk back to Vietnam for an official visit—his first return in 16 years. The visit takes place amid a long-standing, positive, and traditional friendship between the two nations, spanning a 76-year history since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1950.
He expressed his appreciation for both countries upgrading ties to a Strategic Partnership, saying: "Vietnam consistently values and wishes to strengthen traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Poland, which is Vietnam's leading important partner in Central and Eastern Europe."
"I especially appreciate and value the fact that our two sides discussed and decided to upgrade our relationship to a Strategic Partnership on the occasion of the Prime Minister's visit. This will determine major directions to more effectively unlock the potential for cooperation between our two countries in the near future."
For his part, Prime Minister Tusk expressed his impression with the speed of positive transformation in Vietnam, adding that Vietnam is one of the most typical examples in world history of how to turn diligence, the desire to rise and the value of peace into the power of intellectual development.
At the press conference after the talks, Prime Minister Hung said the two sides had reached high consensus on many aspects. In particular, the two Prime Ministers approved the Joint Statement on establishing a Strategic Partnership and the Action Plan on strengthening the Vietnam-Poland partnership for the period 2026-2030.
To deliver the Strategic Partnership framework, the Vietnamese Prime Minister said that the two sides have agreed on major groups of solutions, including enhancing political trust and creating a real breakthrough in economic-trade-investment cooperation.
They pledged to closely coordinate to promote effective implementation of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and increase bilateral trade turnover to 6 billion USD by 2030.
Both sides will deepen defense-security cooperation; elevate science-technology cooperation, innovation, and digital transformation into new pillars within the Strategic Partnership framework, while making cooperation in education-training, culture-tourism, labor, and people-to-people exchanges a sustainable foundation for bilateral cooperation.
The Polish Prime Minister emphasized that Vietnam is one of Poland's most important partners in Asia, saying there’s ample room for cooperation between the two countries. He proposed promoting a more harmonious bilateral trade balance, creating more favorable conditions for Polish businesses to invest in the pharmaceutical, information technology industries and export agricultural and food products to Vietnam.
Before the press conference, the two Prime Ministers witnessed the signing and exchange of important bilateral cooperation documents in education and tourism.
