Attending the ongoing Third Review Conference of the Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM3) in Vientiane, Laos, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Thi Hoang Van affirmed the legitimate right under the UN Charter of every country to ensure its security and self-defense.
She said Vietnam called on the international community to step up financial and technical assistance to countries heavily affected by cluster munitions and landmines, which includes Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.
On the sidelines of the conference, Deputy Foreign Minister Van held bilateral meetings on bilateral cooperation with Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Thongsavanh Phomvihane, leaders of the Cambodian and Timor-Leste delegations, and representatives of the Mines Advisory Group.
