Speaking at the general debate of the Economics-Finance Committee of the UNGA-81 in New York on Monday and Tuesday, Ambassador Viet said global partnership would enable countries to access the knowledge, skills, and technologies needed to foster innovation, enhance competitiveness, and create momentum for the next stage of development.

He told the debate that 2026 marks an important milestone as Vietnam becomes an upper-middle-income country, reflecting its achievements over the last four decades of renewal, international integration, and sustained efforts to improve people’s living standards and livelihoods. However, reaching a higher income level does not mean the end of the development journey. Like many other middle-income countries, Vietnam continues to face long-term challenges and new development demands, he added.

Vietnam calls for accelerated reform of the international financial architecture to make it more inclusive, equitable, and responsive to the needs of developing countries, while strengthening the voice and representation of developing countries in global economic governance, the Ambassador said.
