At the Presidential Palace in Hanoi, General Secretary and President Lam met with Takaichi Sanae, President of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and Prime Minister of Japan, who is on an official visit to Vietnam from Friday to Sunday.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Takaichi reiterated Japan's desire to cooperate closely with Vietnam to implement the Vision for a Free and Open Indo-Pacific. Japan continues to accompany and help Vietnam in achieving its development goals in the new era, contributing to the regional prosperity; and will closely coordinate to elevate the Vietnam-Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to a new level.
The Japanese PM committed to implementing the first cooperation project within the framework of the POWERR ASIA initiative by supporting the procurement of crude oil for the Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Plant. She expressed hope to cooperate with Vietnam to boost energy, gas-fired power, and strategic mineral projects; and pledged favorable conditions for the nearly 700,000 Vietnamese people living, studying, and working in Japan.
General Secretary and President Lam outlined six major directions to strengthen strategic cooperation between the two countries. They include enhancing political trust and cooperation through Party, Government, and local levels; consolidating substantive and effective defense and security cooperation; strengthening economic linkages, ensuring economic security, food security, and energy security.
He stressed the need to expand cooperation into new areas like digital transformation, energy transition, green transition, semiconductors, and AI, which are closely linked to Japan's strengths in science and technology. The top leader underlined effective sci-tech cooperation through training high-quality human resources and promoting joint research, while boosting labor, educational, local, socio-cultural cooperation, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.
