The company will deploy unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) with a payload capacity of up to 50 kilograms to transport coffee and macadamia nuts from hillside farms in Muong Ang district to delivery hubs.

Some growing areas in Muong Ang are located four to five kilometers from transit hubs and are connected by steep, narrow and winding roads, making transportation difficult, especially during bad weather.

This is the first time Vietnam Post has provided drone delivery services in a mountainous region.

The new service is part of a regulatory sandbox pilot for drone applications aimed at developing a low-altitude economy, which was approved by the provincial People’s Committee in June.

On Wednesday, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee also approved a regulatory sandbox pilot for drone applications.
