The agreement was reached at a meeting in Hanoi on Sunday between General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and State President To Lam and Liechtenstein Prime Minister Brigitte Haas.

The Vietnamese top leader described PM Haas’s visit to Vietnam and the signing of two agreements — a double taxation avoidance agreement between the two countries and a free trade agreement between Vietnam and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) member states — as important milestones that lay the groundwork for deeper bilateral ties.

He called on both sides to swiftly complete the necessary procedures to bring the Vietnam-EFTA free trade agreement into effect. He also stressed the need to promote cultural and artistic exchanges and showcase each country’s people and national identity to foster greater mutual understanding.

Prime Minister Haas affirmed that Liechtenstein regards Vietnam as an important partner in Southeast Asia and wishes to further strengthen long-term economic, trade and investment ties.

She also expressed Liechtenstein’s readiness to share approaches and models to help Vietnam optimize its production capacity and productive forces, thereby improving economic efficiency and productivity.
