Hang made the statement at the ministry’s regular press conference in response to a reporter’s question about the US recently identifying 40 trading partners at risk of being exploited to evade tariffs, including Vietnam. The US said goods could be transshipped through third countries to benefit from lower tariff rates and avoid higher US tariffs.
Hang said: "Vietnam advocates promoting healthy trade cooperation with partners based on freedom, fairness, and mutual benefit, in line with bilateral and multilateral agreements and World Trade Organization rules. Vietnam has also been building institutions and strengthening enforcement capacity, particularly in implementing regulations to combat origin fraud and trade fraud.”
“Vietnam resolutely prevents origin fraud and illegal transshipment of goods. In its international economic integration process, Vietnam makes strong international commitments against all acts of trade fraud and works closely with partners to ensure the strict implementation of these commitments. Vietnam's efforts have been recognized by the international community," Hang added.
Hang said Vietnam will continue to engage in constructive dialogue on US concerns in a manner consistent with the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, thus sustaining the stable and mutually beneficial growth of economic and trade relations between the two countries, while contributing to a transparent and prosperous investment and business environment in Vietnam.
