General Phan Van Giang highlighted the significant achievements in bilateral defense cooperation, including cooperation between military services and branches, education and training, and scientific and technological research under the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center.
The two sides have also coordinated and supported each other at international and regional multilateral mechanisms and forums, particularly the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting Plus, or ADMM+.
To make defense cooperation commensurate with its role as a strategic pillar of the Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership in the new period, the two sides agreed to maintain effective mechanisms for defense policy consultations and strategic dialogue, while expanding cooperation in training and United Nations peacekeeping operations.
General Giang asked Russia’s Ministry of Defense to continue providing preferential and fully funded scholarships for Vietnamese defense personnel, strengthen the exchange of experience and training for Vietnamese officers, and support Vietnam with professional equipment for UN peacekeeping operations.
Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov described Vietnam as a traditional friend and an important partner of Russia in the region.
He affirmed that Russia gives priority to developing its relationship with Vietnam, with defense cooperation receiving particular attention and being strengthened and developed as a pillar of bilateral ties.
