Speaking at the ceremony, General Secretary and President To Lam appreciated the invaluable support and cooperation that UN organizations have extended to Vietnam over the years.
He said Vietnam will remain an active, proactive, and responsible member of the international community, he said, adding that it will continue to provide headquarters facilities to UN organizations in Vietnam free of charge, and also welcomes these bodies to establish national or regional representative offices and to host major global events in Vietnam.
Vietnam stands ready to share its development experience with other nations through cooperation mechanisms, working together towards a peaceful, prosperous, inclusive, and people-centered world, the top leader remarked.
In their speeches, the heads of the UNDP, UNICEF, and UNFPA expressed admiration for Vietnam’s development journey and outstanding achievements, pledging to continue supporting the country in seizing epoch-defining opportunities in a timely manner.
The UNDP Administrator highlighted Vietnam’s remarkable transformation from a war-torn country into a dynamic economy and a global success story in poverty reduction and human development. Entering a new phase of cooperation, UNDP pledged to continue working closely with Vietnam and supporting it in seizing emerging opportunities in a rapidly changing world.
The UNICEF Executive Director said Vietnam is a clear example of how investment in people can drive profound socio-economic transformation. UNICEF hopes Vietnam will share its development experience more actively through South-South and triangular cooperation mechanisms.
The UNFPA Executive Director highlighted Vietnam’s leading role in advancing the “One UN” initiative, which seeks to improve coordination and efficiency among UN agencies at the national level. This includes the establishment of the Green One UN House in Hanoi, the first of its kind worldwide. Designed with environmentally friendly features, the facility stands as a symbol of the strong partnership between Vietnam and the United Nations.
