Ambassador Dung said this effort is a key component of Vietnam’s 500-day campaign to search for, recover, and identify the remains of fallen soldiers.

Vietnam is mobilizing significant resources for the campaign, which hopes to recover 7,000 sets of remains of fallen soldiers, accelerate identification efforts, and conduct demining operations at the site of former battles, according to the Ambassador.

To date, the campaign has cleared more than 18,000 hectares of land contaminated by unexploded ordnance - 81% of its target - and has recovered 3,600 sets of remains and collected 120,000 biological samples to assist in the identification process.

Ambassador Dung noted that Vietnam and the United States have signed new cooperation agreements under which the US will provide an additional 130 million USD for the dioxin remediation project at Bien Hoa airbase, bringing total non-refundable aid to about 430 million USD.

Another agreement allocates 91 million USD to improve the quality of life of persons with disabilities, starting with Ca Mau and Quang Ngai province.
