The Prime Minister said Vietnam consistently regards the United States as one of its leading partners and called on Ambassador Wicks and the US Embassy to help promote high-level exchanges and expand practical cooperation with Vietnamese ministries, agencies and localities.
He stressed the need to foster balanced, sustainable and mutually beneficial economic and trade ties by resolving outstanding issues and expediting negotiations on a reciprocal, fair and balanced trade agreement to provide a stable framework for businesses from both countries to expand investment activities.
Prime Minister Hung proposed stronger cooperation in law enforcement, humanitarian assistance, cybersecurity and combating transnational crime. He also urged continued US support for dioxin remediation, unexploded ordnance clearance, assistance for people with disabilities, and cooperation in sharing archival records, documents and DNA identification technology to help locate and identify the remains of fallen Vietnamese soldiers. He reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to accounting for US personnel missing from the war.
The Prime Minister urged for expanded cooperation in science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, education, workforce development and people-to-people exchanges.
Ambassador Wicks expressed hope that both sides would maintain close dialogue to conclude a high-standard, reciprocal, fair and balanced trade agreement. She noted significant potential for cooperation in maritime security, law enforcement and addressing transnational security challenges, while pledging continued US support for war legacy remediation, including dioxin cleanup, unexploded ordnance clearance, assistance for people with disabilities, the search and identification of Vietnamese martyrs, and the repatriation of the remains of missing US servicemen.
The Ambassador also voiced support for expanding bilateral cooperation in education, science, technology and innovation as well as Vietnam’s development goals, affirming that she would work to further strengthen Vietnam-US relations throughout her tenure.
