Green summer in Dak Lak’s hamlets

(VOVworld) – Every summer, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union organizes a “Green Summer” volunteer program. Temporarily postponing their study plans, students volunteer in disadvantaged hamlets in Dak Lak Province in the hope that they can do something to improve living conditions in the poor rural areas. Their trips bring along not only knowledge, but also the youths’ enthusiasm for the community.

(VOVworld) – In war time, the Vietnamese government ordered the army and the public health care system to provide treatments to those who were exposed to toxic chemicals. When Vietnam was unified in April 1975, the State adopted policies for victims of Agent Orange/dioxin and mobilized resources to help them in production, health care, education, and rehabilitation.

Association for Victims of AO/Dioxin stands side by side with AO victims

(VOVworld) – The war ended more than 40 years ago but its mark has been left on tens of thousands of victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin. Although they have struggled against diseases for years, they have never been alone in the fight. Relatives, the community, and the Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin and its chapters across Vietnam have helped them cope with the hardships and integrate into the community.

Hard times in a school without female teachers

(VOVworld) – Every day the 41 male teachers at Tri Le 4 primary school in Tri Le commune Nghe An province take turns teaching at six hamlet schools. From the commune’s center to the hamlet schools, they have to drive 40 kilometers, only 10 km of which are paved. The rest is along a muddy path which becomes slippery on rainy days. Despite the hardships, the teachers encourage each other to continue bringing education to their beloved pupils.

(VOVworld) – The Ơ Đu are one of the five smallest ethnic minorities in Vietnam. Most of the 400 surviving Ơ Đu live in Văng Môn hamlet, Tương Dương district, Nghệ An province. Ơ Đu people have their own language, culture, and customs, but these are in danger of being lost.
