A 500-meter stretch of Nguyen Phuc Nguyen street, linking the Saigon Railway Station and the Dan Chu roundabout, is home to 17 long-established ceramics shops. The new designation is expected to give the street a more cohesive identity and a greater appeal that will stimulate commercial activity.
Ngoc Minh, who has been selling ceramics since 1989, said the initiative will attract more customers. “I hope the local administration will increase promotion so more people can learn about us. With support from authorities and organizations, business activity will gradually rise.”
Le Thanh Quoc, Vice Chairman of the Nhieu Loc ward People’s Committee, said the street’s value lies not just in the number of shops or the variety of products, but also in each business’s service quality, reputation, and convenience.
Nguyen Thi Dieu Huyen, who has been in the ceramics trade for nearly a decade, said customer traffic declined after the COVID-19 pandemic, as restaurants and eateries, which once accounted for a large share of bulk purchases, cut back on orders. She hopes the launch of the specialized ceramics street will create new opportunities to reach customers.
Loan, another shop owner, said coordinated promotion and branding could attract new customers and increase sales. Other local traders are also hoping the initiative will breathe new life into the area’s commercial activity. So far, both customer numbers and sales have been showing encouraging signs of growth.
“Promotional activities are already underway, but many people still don’t know about in HCM City street. I hope that as it gains more recognition, more customers will come to support my shop and other businesses here,” said Loan.
Building on its long history as a ceramics trading hub, Nguyen Phuc Nguyen street is positioning itself as a leading ceramics shopping destination in Ho Chi Minh City.
