Deputy Minister Vo Van Hung stressed that combating IUU fishing is an especially important and urgent political task. It is linked to national reputation, fishermen’s interests, seafood exports and the sustainable development of the fisheries sector.

During the peak campaign from August 15 to September 15, the entire fishing fleet must be reviewed to ensure that the status of every vessel, its management and responsibilities are clearly identified.

“Special attention must be paid to reporting and the responsibility of leaders. Figures must be accurate and shortcomings must be reported. Ministries, sectors and localities should focus on the results of the assigned tasks and properly address the bottlenecks identified by the European Commission. Every week, progress must be reflected in figures, documents and concrete results,” Deputy Minister Hung said.
