Participants discussed ways to strengthen maritime connectivity and develop seaports and inland waterway transport systems. According to Nguyen Minh Duc, Vice Rector of the Vietnam Maritime University, integrating inland waterway transport with the seaport system plays a vital role in enhancing cargo connectivity and reducing logistics costs.

“In the realm of multimodal transport connectivity, this is a highly significant policy—most notably regarding the integration of inland waterways with maritime and rail networks, with seaports serving as the central hubs. For Hai Phong, which functions as a special-class seaport, the connectivity between maritime, inland waterway, and rail transport at its ports is of critical importance and serves as a foundation for enhancing logistics efficiency,” Duc added.

Themed “Sustainable Development of Maritime and Inland Waterway Transport and Interdisciplinary Issues,” the conference was organized by the Vietnam Maritime University and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).
