At the Cat Hai Special Zone fishing port in Hai Phong city, officers and soldiers of Flotilla 38 inspect fishing vessels and their onboard equipment and guide fishermen through the procedures before setting sail.
Fisherman Nguyen Van Cuong of Ninh Binh province said: "The officers of Flotilla 38 have explained the regulations in detail and we've a better understanding of the rules. They showed us everything from turning on the monitoring equipment and keeping fishing logs to explaining the consequences of any violations. Now, before every fishing trip, we check our equipment and strictly comply with the regulations."
Flotilla 38 maintains round-the-clock patrols in the waters under its jurisdiction, while stepping up awareness campaigns among fishermen.
Lieutenant Colonel Pham Manh Thang of Flotilla 38 said: "We present fishermen with national flags, provide free medical check-ups and treatment, and distribute life jackets. Through these practical activities, they have gradually built close ties with us. They have also joined us in safeguarding national sovereignty and maritime security while encouraging fellow fishermen to comply with the Fisheries Law."
