In the posts on social X, Paraguayan Senator Celeste Amarilla was alleged to have used insulting and racist language targeting Mbappé. Mbappe hit back, describing her as a "despicable woman".

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) on Tuesday issued a statement condemning the actions of the Paraguayan senator, saying the racist, dehumanizing remarks are deplorable, and remarkably not isolated.

Also on Tuesday, the Paris Prosecutor's Office announced that it received a complaint from the French Football Federation (FFF) and opened a probe into aggravated public insult and incitement to hatred or violence. It said “the remarks were allegedly made because of the victim’s actual or perceived origin, ethnicity, nationality, race, or religion.”

Paraguay's Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ statement said Senator Amarillas’ remarks against French national team captain Kylian Mbappé are contrary to the values and principles of peaceful coexistence and respect for human dignity that Paraguay upholds.
