For the first time, the 2026 World Cup will have three separate opening ceremonies, one for each of the three hosts – Mexico, Canada, and the US – taking place 90 minutes before each host's opening game.
Mexican star Alejandro Fernández, one of Latin music's best-selling artists, performed Mexico's national anthem, while South Africa's national anthem was performed by "Queen of Popiano" Tyla. FIFA World Cup 2026 Ambassador Salma Hayek also joined the pre-match ceremony to welcome fans to Mexico City.
The second opening ceremony will be held at BMO Field stadium in Toronto before host Canada takes on Bosnia & Herzegovina on Friday. The event will feature Jessie Reyez, Michael Bublé, Nora Fatehi, William Prince, Elyanna, Vegedream, and actor Will Arnett. Canadian mezzo-soprano legend Alanis Morissette will sing Canada's national anthem. Bosnia & Herzegovina’s national anthem will be performed by esteemed violinist Aleksandar Gajić.
SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles will host the third ceremony on Saturday, featuring Katy Perry, Future, Lisa from BlackPink, Anitta, Rema, and Tyla, before host US takes on Paraguay. Country duo Dan + Shay will perform the US national anthem, while Purahei Soul will perform Paraguay's national anthem.
