Under the 500-day campaign to locate, recover, and identify the remains of fallen soldiers, Hue city’s Military Command has mobilized forces, veterans, and local residents. Search and Recovery Team 192 has recovered another set of remains near Huong Thuy Station, an area where 83 sets of martyrs’ remains were found 30 years ago.
Nguyen Van Manh, Vice Chairman of the Hue People’s Committee and head of Steering Committee 515, said: “At Huong Thuy Station, search teams have recovered the remains of one fallen soldier, and witnesses continue to provide new information. The area previously yielded 83 sets of remains, and authorities believe more may still be there. We’ve narrowed down the search area and mobilized all available forces. We’ll verify and follow up on every piece of information, no matter how small, to bring the fallen soldiers home.”
Meanwhile, the Ha Tinh Military Command and relevant agencies are collecting biological samples from unidentified martyrs’ graves across the province.
So far, teams have exhumed 156 graves at cemeteries in Can Loc, Thach Ha, Duc Tho, and Huong Khe. A new feature of the operation is the on-site digitization of grave locations, condition of remains, images, and other related data.
Major Tran Nguyen Thai Hoc of the Ha Tinh Military Command’s Staff Department said: “Each cemetery requires a different approach to excavation, digitization, and photography. Although we have faced some initial difficulties, the officers and soldiers are determined and are making every effort to fulfill the mission.”
Each set of remains recovered and identified eases a family’s pain. It’s a mission of gratitude, responsibility, and remembrance.
