(VOVworld) – The costume of the Nung is not as colorful as that of other ethnic groups. Nung clothes are made of indigo dyed fabric with very few decorations or embroidery. Their dressing habits reflect their culture and customs.

(VOVworld) – The Nung have about 1 million people, ranking 7th in population among Vietnam’s 54 ethnic groups. They live in all 63 provinces of Vietnam, but mainly in northern provinces of Lang Son, Cao Bang, Bac Can, Thai Nguyen, Bac Giang, and Tuyen Quang. The Nung have a long history of development and many age-old, unique customs have been upheld.

(VOVworld) – The rain blessing ceremony is one of 7 annual festivals of the Ha Nhi. It takes place at the end of the summer when rice and maize are maturing. Rituals at the rainy season festival are typical of people dependent on agriculture. They pray to the genies of agriculture, rain, and water to bless them with bumper crops, animal reproduction, a prosperous life, and health for their people.

(VOVworld) – The Ha Nhi have many important ceremonies each year including the Lunar New Year festival, forest worship, and crop blessing rite. To Tuan describes the Ha Nhi’s crop blessing rite.

(VOVworld) – The Ha Nhi are no longer bound by feudal rites and ethics. Young Ha Nhi people are now allowed to date before marriage. Today VOV introduces the Ha Nhi’s dating customs and wedding ceremony.

(VOVworld) – Living in high mountains, the Ha Nhi depend largely on nature. They believe that genies have blessed them with a peaceful life and given them forests, water, rice, and other kinds of food. The Ha Nhi attach importance to worshipping genies to thank their merits.

(VOvworld) – Settling in high mountains for hundreds of year, the Ha Nhi depend on agricultural production on terraced fields. They have well-organized irrigation systems and have mastered cultivation techniques on terraced fields. Besides farming, they also do some handicrafts.
