(VOVWORLD) - A new book category targeting young adults over 16 has been launched by Kim Dong Publishing House, a well-known publisher of children‘s books. Wings Books will try to satisfy young readers’ desire for more diverse content.

My Son sanctuary under restoration

(VOVWORLD) - The My Son sanctuary in Quang Nam province was recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage site 20 years ago. The site has undergone several restorations with support from domestic and international organizations and experts which has kept it largely intact to this day.

VOV artists honored with high distinction

(VOVWORLD) - Four artists of the Voice of Vietnam were recently honored with the titles People’s Artist or Emeritus Artist. They are People’s Artist Kim Duc, People’s Artist Phan Muon, Emeritus Artist Hoang Tung, and Emeritus Artist Le Quang Dung. They have been honored for their musical talent, dedication, and contributions to bringing Vietnamese music to listeners in every corner of Vietnam.

(VOVWORLD) - The art of Bai choi singing in central Vietnam was recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity two years ago. Several programs have been implemented to preserve and promote the art, including the teaching of Bai choi in school curriculum, building venues for singers to perform, and establishing clubs to popularize the art.

“A thousand years of white cloud” – merging traditional theaters

(VOVWORLD) - Inspired by the legend of To Thi- a lady who turned to stone while waiting for her husband at the border - VOV President Nguyen The Ky wrote a play which was later made into an opera entitled “A thousand years of white cloud” by Artist Hoang Song Viet and People’s Artist Thanh Ngoan. The opera merges four traditional theater genres: Hue chanting, Xam singing, Cheo or traditional opera and Cai Luong or reformed opera.

(VOVWORLD) - Most Vietnamese and other Buddhist countries in Asia believe the First Full Moon of the New Year is the most important full moon in the year. On the 15th day of the first lunar month, people commonly go to pagodas and pray for their family members and friends. One of the most popular destinations for pilgrims in southern Vietnam on this ocassion is the Thien Hau pagoda in Binh Duong province.

VOV’s Culture looks at the future of Vietnam’s unique traditions through the lens of this project.
