In the theoretical framework of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the modern working class is both a product and a driver of industrial development, closely tied to scientific and technological advances, high-quality, productive labor, and being capable of international integration, and adapting to rapid technological change. Building a member of the modern Vietnamese working class is therefore a critical step in preparing human resources for the nation’s industrialization and modernization phase, with science, technology, and innovation as its core driving forces.

Vietnamese workers ready for a new era
After 15 years working at Garment Corporation 10, Phung Thi Hanh, has always sought ways to enhance productivity. As a frontline producer, Ms. Hanh prioritizes proactive learning and continuous self-improvement. Thanks to her commitment to upskilling and training, she is now one of the company’s most productive and highest-earning employees, often representing the company in skilled labor and innovation contests. Hanh said: “I always try to learn from others’ experience to improve skills and work faster. I started out producing 200–300 items per day, and within a year, I became the unit leader with a daily output of 1,400 products, 150% higher than the average. I’ve also learned other stages and improved my skills, eventually becoming a mobile worker mastering any stage of the production line.”
At Dai Dung Mechanical Company, young worker Pham Truong Giang is known for his innovative mindset. Using leftover materials in the factory, he designed a modern machine that significantly reduced manual labor while boosting productivity.
Ms. Hanh and Mr. Giang are just two among many creative, forward-thinking workers across the country. Their stories show that Vietnamese workers are actively learning, embracing technology, and taking the initiative to innovate and master science and technology.

Programs to improve workers’ skills
The Communist Party of Vietnam has consistently affirmed the role of the working class as “the leading force in the cause of national industrialization and modernization, aiming for the goal of a prosperous people, a strong nation, and an equal, democratic, and civilized society.”
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen An Ninh of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics said: “The working class must rise with a sense of responsibility for the Party and the nation. Crucially, they must uphold and advance the revolutionary nature of the working class, which is the essence of the Party. When this nature is preserved and promoted, the working class will flourish, and Vietnam’s socialist orientation will become clearer.”
Improving knowledge, technical expertise, and soft skills of workers is an essential trend in developing a multi-sector economy and international integration. It is also an inevitable trend in developing advanced manufacturing sectors that demand qualified, highly skilled workers.
The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor is actively rolling out training and upskilling programs for workers. According to the 2025 workforce development plan, more than 12,000 workers will participate in training sessions covering skills development, theory, foreign languages, legal awareness, and financial literacy. These programs aim to equip workers not only with professional capabilities but also with the knowledge and life skills necessary to navigate and thrive in today’s evolving labor landscape.
Vietnam’s new-generation workforce is increasingly proactive, eager to learn, and ready to embrace new knowledge and skills to meet the demands of modern production and society. They now have greater aspiration to contribute to the growth of their companies and national development.
