The Truong Sa Museum covers over 17,000 square meters, facing the sea to the east and adjacent to the Gạc Ma Soldiers Memorial to the west.

Dr Nguyen Viet Chuc, a member of the museum’s advisory council, said: “The museum is located on a highly strategic site, close to the Gạc Ma Soldiers Memorial and Cam Ranh Bay and in Cam Lâm, a newly developing urban area. This project reflects Khanh Hoa’s expanding development space.”

Designed with three above-ground floors and one basement, the 3,800-square-metre structure draws inspiration from branches reaching from the mainland toward the Spratly Islands and the East Sea, symbolizing a journey of safeguarding maritime sovereignty. Its design won first prize in an architectural competition organized by Khanh Hoa province.

Sun-shading panels made of fiber-reinforced concrete are designed with stylized red coral patterns, combined with red bricks and curved elements that resemble wooden planks, reflecting traditional wooden shipbuilding techniques for naval warships from the Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1945.)

Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Le Van Hoa, said that Khanh Hoa province has conducted surveys and compiled an initial collection of more than 1,150 images, documents, and artefacts related to Truong Sa.

“The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has been collecting artifacts and calling on localities, agencies, museums, businesses, and individuals to donate items. We will then develop exhibition plans to clearly present the historical and cultural evolution of the Spratly archipelago,” Hoa said.

The museum’s architectural space and landscape are designed in an open style, balancing greenery and water features.

Nguyen Thanh Ha, Vice Chairman of the Khanh Hoa provincial People’s Committee, said: “The construction is scheduled to be completed in the second quarter of 2028. The province has assigned relevant departments and sectors to closely monitor progress and ensure construction quality. The culture, sports, and tourism sector has been tasked with developing plans to attract visitors, including students and tour groups. The museum will serve as a “red address” for education about tradition and patriotism, and for welcoming international visitors to Vietnam’s Truong Sa Special Zone.”

The Truong Sa Museum is fully funded by Vingroup. Upon completion, the project will be handed over to Khanh Hoa province for management and operation.
