At an altitude of around 700 metres above sea level, Bui Hui Grassland covers more than 400 hectares surrounded by lush mountain forests. As the winding road climbs higher around the mountain slopes, the air becomes cooler, while the villages below gradually disappear behind layers of forest.
After a bend in the road, Bui Hui comes into view, stretching as far as the eye can see. In the early morning, mist still hangs in the air and layers of clouds slowly flow on the hillsides. Sometimes the clouds look so close you feel like you could just reach out and touch them.
Nguyen Thi Thanh, a visitor from Quang Ngai, said: “I'm really impressed by Bui Hui Grassland. My family arrived here yesterday afternoon. This place is spacious with fresh air and a peaceful atmosphere. Early in the morning, there were thin clouds, and the weather was pleasantly cool. Standing in the grassland, I felt very relaxed, forgetting about the noise and everyday business. This is an ideal destination for people to enjoy nature and relax after stressful working days.”
Bui Hui takes on a different beauty at different times of the day. At noon, gentle sunlight covers the grassland. In the afternoon, the sun quickly sets behind the mountain range. When night falls, the entire area grows quiet, with only the sound of the wind.
Visitors can go hiking, camping and take photographs, or simply sit for a while on the grass, listening to the wind wafting through the mountains and forests. Local residents see the opportunities for community-based tourism.
Dinh Thi Bao Hang lives in Bui Hui village: “Bui Hui Grassland has cool climate and peaceful scenery, which are well suited for community-based tourism. In recent years, more tourists have come here. Tourism is bringing development opportunities to local people. The villagers offer hospitality services and sell local products, so our livelihoods are improving.”
Visitors gain a glimpse into the H're way of life. Locals warmly welcome tourists with the performance of gongs, folk melodies, and dishes made from local ingredients.
Tran Thanh Hung, Director of the Bui Hui Community Cooperative, said: “Bui Hui welcomes between 30,000 and 50,000 visitors each year. We always have booking for large groups. Visitors can experience all four seasons in a single day. The sunrise in the morning and sunset in the afternoon are particularly beautiful. We plan to develop more community-based models, such as vegetable farming and exchange of gong performance and H're culture.”
Amid the fast pace of modern life, a visit to Bui Hui is more than a sightseeing trip. It is a chance to slow down and immerse oneself in the peaceful beauty of the Quang Ngai highlands.
