(VOVWORLD) - Ho Chi Minh City has granted an investment registration certificate for the construction of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Data Centre at Tan Phu Trung Industrial Park. The project is expected to help foster an innovation ecosystem, technology research and development, and the digital economy in the city.
The 2.1-billion USD AI Data Centre project is being implemented by Kinh Bac City Development Holding Corporation (KBC), its partners, and Accelerated Infrastructure Capital (AIC), an experienced global investor in developing and operating data centres. The center is designed to meet high technical standards, focusing on energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.
The first phase will build an AI factory with a capacity of up to 50MW (total IT/GPU load), including around 28,000 graphics processing units (GPUs). The facility is expected to be ready for commercial operation by the end of this year. Once operational, it will provide computing capacity for international clients, Vietnam’s sovereign AI needs, and large-scale high-performance computing systems. The project aims to build a modern, internationally standardized data infrastructure to support socio-economic development and promote AI research and applications across multiple sectors.
Lam Dinh Thang, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Science and Technology, said the project has identified a roadmap for commercial operation, providing computing capacity for AI and high-performance computing needs of both domestic and international clients, and contributing to Vietnam’s sovereign AI targets. It also aims to attract more high-tech enterprises, research and development (R&D) centers, and firms in AI and cloud computing and semiconductor to Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh City’s investment in modern data infrastructure carries a long-term strategic significance, laying the foundation for the city’s digital transformation.
