In an interview with a VOV’s reporter on the occasion of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Mr. Shantanu Chakraborty said that the Vietnamese Government has demonstrated strong determination by rolling out a series of major reforms to boost economic growth.

Accelerating institutional reforms, with a focus on improving efficiency and implementation progress, is timely and commendable. The long-term orientation, including comprehensive reforms in science and technology, innovation and digital transformation, the development of the private sector, investment in people through education and healthcare, and ensuring energy security, are all appropriate and urgently needed priorities for Vietnam at this stage.

“Vietnam economy has done well in 2025, despite the challenges facing the country. There continues to be opportunities in 2026, with the next five-year development plan expected to be rolled out sometime in 2026. 2026 is going to be important for Vietnam. We are going into a very, very busy political cycle. We have the Party Congress coming up and the new National Assembly, all the way up to May. There will be a lot of political actions, and this will of course have a bearing on the pace at which economic reforms and structural reforms can be implemented in the country. What has been achieved in 2025 has been fantastic in terms of the reforms, and I do hope that the momentum will continue to 2026,” said the ADB Country Director in Vietnam.

Mr. Shantanu Chakraborty stressed that ADB is confident Vietnam will continue to maintain macroeconomic stability, flexibly implement short-term support measures, and remain committed to long-term structural reforms and investment in people, while advancing digital transformation, developing human resources, and harnessing the benefits of innovation.
