(VOVWORLD) - The strategic orientations adopted the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam would provide a foundation for a new phase of Vietnam’s development, according to French Ambassador to Vietnam Olivier Brochet.

Attending the Congress’s opening and closing sessions, Ambassador Brochet said the Congress’s decisions reflected Vietnam’s development ambitions and would help strengthen the country’s growing international standing, while creating additional opportunities for cooperation, especially between Vietnam and France.

As a Comprehensive Strategic Partner, France would continue to support Vietnam through concrete cooperation programs, he added, building on more than five decades of bilateral relations.

“France welcomes Vietnam’s development aspirations as clearly shown at the 14th National Party Congress, along with the country’s strong and dynamic leadership. France looks forward to accompanying Vietnam in its new phase of development and is confident in the potential for bilateral cooperation for mutual benefit," said Ambassador Brochet.

He praised Vietnam’s foreign policy orientation, which he said aims to promote an active and responsible role in multilateral mechanisms.

“Vietnam has placed great importance on independence and strategic autonomy, a principle repeatedly underscored by the Party General Secretary in his opening address to the Congress,” Ambassador Brochet added.

“It is an active contributor to regional stability and is asserting its important role on the international stage, including at the United Nations, the World Trade Organization and other multilateral forums. These are values shared by both France and Vietnam and are essential to preserving peace and promoting development for the benefit of people worldwide,” he said.
