Myanmar election: USDP declares victory
(VOVWORLD) - Myanmar’s Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) on Monday declared victory in the country’s first general election since the military assumed power five years ago. The election was held amid ongoing political divisions and prolonged conflict.
The final phase of voting concluded on Sunday, with preliminary results indicating that the USDP is leading both in the popular vote and the number of parliamentary seats, securing sufficient authority to continue governing the country.
In the general election, voters elected members to both chambers of Parliament, as well as legislative councils in seven states and seven regions, along with representatives at the local government level.
