The announcement was made on Saturday by Nepal’s President, Ram Chandra Paudel. He also called on all political parties in Nepal to cooperate in meeting the aspirations of the people and to ensure the election is held on the scheduled date.
The decision by President Ram Chandra Paudel was made based on the recommendation of Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki, who took office on Friday.
In a related development, Nepali citizens gathered outside Bouddhanath Stupa — one of the largest in the world and a key center of Tibetan Buddhism located in the northeastern outskirts of the capital, Kathmandu — on Saturday evening to hold a candle march in memory of those who lost their lives during the recent anti-corruption protests across the country.
