On Thursday, Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah, initially seen as the frontrunner, publicly declined to run. Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki, another strong candidate, also withdrew from consideration, citing constitutional and legal hurdles. Gen Z leader Diwakar Dangal acknowledged that the youth movement is not yet ready to take over national leadership.

Ghising, widely credited with ending years of nationwide power cuts, is regarded as a capable figure who can guide Nepal until fresh elections are held.

President Ram Chandra Paudel renewed his call for peace, saying he is making every effort to resolve Nepal’s political crisis within the constitutional framework while protecting democracy and maintaining order. He urged all political forces to trust that a solution will soon be found, and appealed to citizens to cooperate and show restraint to preserve peace and stability.
