Nepal appoints interim Prime Minister

(VOVWORLD) - Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki became Nepal’s first female head of government, taking the oath of office as interim Prime Minister on Friday at the presidential palace.

The appointment followed nationwide “Gen Z” protests that forced former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to resign.
Chosen through an open vote on Discord by protest organizers, Karki held her first cabinet meeting and proposed new general elections for March 4, 2026. The President is expected to approve the plan and declare a nationwide state of emergency.
