New decree requires social media users in Vietnam to verify accounts with phone numbers
(VOVWORLD) - From Wednesday, user in Vietnam must verify their accounts with their phone numbers to post and share information on social media, according to a new government's decree on the management, provision, and use of Internet services and online information.
Service providers can verify users accounts with their personal identification numbers only if users confirm they do not have a phone number in Vietnam, in accordance with the laws on identification and electronic authentication.
Social media accounts using livestreaming features for commercial purposes must be verified with personal identification numbers in accordance with the laws on identification and electronic authentication.
Service providers are responsible for classifying and displaying warnings against inappropriate content for children, implementing measures to protect children online in accordance with laws on child protection, and handling users’ complaints about content and services, said the new decree.
