(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam reached unprecedented highs in both rice export volume and value - approximately 9 million tons worth 5.7 billion USD - in 2024, according to a report by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Average rice export price also reached an all-time high of over 600 USD per ton. Annual rice export in the past three years witnessed a 28% increase, leading to a double-digit growth in export turnover.
In 2024, Vietnam is the world's third largest rice exporter, behind India at 17 million tons and Thailand at 10 million tons. Vietnamese farmers are focusing on high-quality rice varieties, favoured by international market, such as the Dai Thom 8, OM 18, and ST varieties.
