New hope emerges for Russia-Ukraine conflict
(VOVWORLD) -Trilateral talks between Russia, the United States and Ukraine, held in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, on Friday and Saturday, were described as constructive and positive, with participants noting limited progress in discussions on confidence-building measures and temporary security arrangements.
Earlier, multiple sources quoted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy as saying that the two-day discussions were constructive and focused on measures aimed at ending the conflict. Zelenskiy said the three sides had agreed to continue negotiations in the near term, possibly as early as the beginning of next week, with Abu Dhabi remaining the venue.
The Abu Dhabi meeting was the first time that senior representatives of the United States, Russia and Ukraine have convened together since the outbreak of the conflict in February 2022. Observers have described the talks as a significant step toward rebuilding confidence between Russia and Ukraine following months of stalled and intermittent diplomatic engagement.
Nevertheless, the talks did not yield a substantive breakthrough, as fundamental differences among the parties, particularly regarding territorial issues, remain unresolved.
