In a statement released on Wednesday, UNESCO says the Resolution issued by the Politburo represents a significant shift in development thinking, recognizing culture not merely as a supporting sector but as one of four equal pillars of sustainable development, alongside the economy, society and the environment.

This approach, UNESCO notes, aligns with its own vision and ongoing efforts to promote culture as a standalone Sustainable Development Goal in the global development agenda beyond 2030.

Against the backdrop of rising geopolitical uncertainties, the UN agency welcomes Vietnam’s identification of culture as a “regulatory compass” for rapid and sustainable development, contributing to global efforts to strengthen peace and promote dialogue and connectivity among cultures.

UNESCO reaffirms its commitment to continue working with Vietnam to realize this vision.
