Vietnam calls on UNESCO to provide preferential treatment for developing countries

Vietnam is participating in the session as one of the 24 members of the Convention’s Intergovernmental Committee. Addressing the meeting, Ambassador Nguyen Thi Van Anh, Head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to UNESCO, emphasized the need to strengthen capacity building, share experience, enhance international cooperation, and implement recommendations related to Article 16 of the Convention on “Preferential Treatment for Developing Countries.”

She affirmed that Vietnam will continue to work closely with the international community to effectively implement the 2005 Convention.

Ambassador Nguyen Thi Van Anh also noted Vietnam’s Politburo adopted Resolution No. 80 on the development of Vietnamese culture last month. Vietnam is currently implementing the Strategy for the Development of Cultural Industries to 2030, with a vision to 2045.

The 19th session is scheduled to run until February 20, covering a number of important agenda items. To date, 161 parties have joined the 2005 Convention. UNESCO has established the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, which includes four Vietnamese cities: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hoi An, and Da Lat.
