The plan aims to effectively manage and protect marine, coastal, and island ecosystems, and increase the coverage of marine and coastal protected areas to approximately 6% of Vietnam’s natural sea area by 2030. Under the plan, Vietnam is expected to increase marine protected areas to 27.
The initiative also addresses proactive responses to climate change and rising sea levels, promoting the sustainable development of the marine economy while ensuring national defense, security, independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. The ultimate goal is to position Vietnam as a strong and prosperous maritime nation.
