In South America, Peru and Colombia urgent international rescue efforts are underway following disasters that struck last Monday.
Peru remains on high alert after a series of tremors hit the regions of Junin, Lima, Moquegua, Ayacucho, and Huancavelica on Friday and Saturday.
In Colombia, an earthquake last Monday killed 294 people, left more than 300 missing, and injured thousands. The Colombian government has activated emergency measures, established shelters, and distributed humanitarian aid.
In Southeast Asia, Indonesia recorded 3 earthquakes ranging from magnitude 6.2 to 7.7 in Sumatra, Central Sulawesi, and East Nusa Tenggara.
An earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara killed at least 53 people, injured more than 130, and forced 5,000 people to evacuate their homes. Landslides damaged homes and blocked major transportation routes.
Hery Nabit, Regent of Manggarai, the hardest hit area in Nusa Tenggara province, said the biggest challenge to the current response effort is the power outage across the entire Manggarai regency.
"Telephone networks were also disrupted until the afternoon. The hardest hit area is Reo in the north, which remains inaccessible because landslides have blocked many roads,” he added.
