Foreign Minister Penny Wong said that the team, including members of Fire and Rescue New South Wales and the Queensland Fire Department, will depart in the coming days.
“They will use advanced drone technology to provide mapping and thermal imaging to support Nepal's search and rescue efforts and their deployment was in response to Australia's ongoing offers of assistance to Nepal. We have made clear to Nepal that we stand ready to provide further search, rescue and recovery assistance,” said Penny.
Australia has provided Nepal with over 2.8 million USD donated to the Emergency Action Alliance which will enable the delivery of vital shelter, water, sanitation, healthcare, and provide children with desperately needed temporary learning spaces.
The Australian Government pledges to provide additional 2.1 million USD to Nepal, bringing the Australian Government’s humanitarian support package to 7.88 million USD. 38 Australians remain unaccounted for.
