As of Saturday evening, the Nepalese Army had rescued 418 Nepalese citizens from the affected area, while 50 foreign nationals had also been saved, including 42 Chinese and eight Indian citizens. Air teams have carried out 274 helicopter sorties to deliver essential relief supplies and conduct search and rescue operations.
Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal said 4,450 people, including nearly 200 foreigners, had been rescued in the three days since the disaster struck. A total of 626 bodies had been recovered, while around 2,400 people remained missing.
Rescue teams are searching for people believed to be trapped inside tunnels at hydropower projects. Nepal has called for specialized international assistance to clear blocked tunnels, search for survivors, and conduct forensic and DNA analysis to identify victims.
The Nepalese government estimates that post-disaster reconstruction could cost up to 5 billion USD.
India has delivered 60 tons of relief supplies and deployed a technical reconnaissance team, while China has sent specialized personnel to support rescue operations.
