The Australian Associated Press (AAP) said “The Vietnam-Australia relationship is grounded in deep strategic trust, mutual interests, and a shared ambition for the future of our region."
According to AAP, two-way trade turnover has doubled since 2020, reaching the 30 billion AUD (20 billion USD) mark, making Vietnam one of Australia's fastest-growing trading partners. Vietnam is currently a leading market for Australian coal, iron ore, and aluminum, as well as a key source of international students. Amid Australia's rising demand for fuel and energy, Vietnam has emerged as a top potential partner, positioning trade and energy cooperation as a central focus of the bilateral relationship, the Australian Associated Press added.
The Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) noted that General Secretary and President To Lam arrives in Australia two years after the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries was signed, the trip comes at a high in the relationship. “To Lam’s visit builds on a partnership that has matured steadily. Vietnam is now among Australia’s 10 largest trading partners, while Australia remains an important economic partner for Vietnam,” ASPI said.
The Canberra Times on Tuesday said Vietnam has one of the fastest-growing economies in Southeast Asia with Australia making efforts for half a century to secure a stronger relationship. It quoted Dr. Anne Vo, a senior lecturer of Vietnamese culture and politics at the University of Wollongong, noting that Vietnam is increasingly asserting itself as a key pillar, offering tangible economic security to Australian businesses amidst a volatile global landscape.
