In a statement released Thursday by the Prime Minister's Office, Albanese said he and Mr. To Lam will meet in Canberra on August 11 for their first face-to-face talks, where they are expected to discuss expanding collaboration across a range of strategic sectors.
The statement described Australia and Vietnam as close regional partners sharing a long-lasting friendship. The two countries elevated ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in March 2024, paving the way for broader cooperation in defense and security, trade and investment, education, energy, innovation and digital transformation.
Albanese said the relationship is built on deep strategic trust, shared interests and a common vision for the regional future.
He also pointed to the deep people-to-people ties between the two countries, including a Vietnamese Australian community of around 350,000 people.
