Burnham, the former mayor of Greater Manchester, won the support of 349 of Labour's 401 lawmakers to become the Party's new leader, paving the way for him to succeed Starmer as Prime Minister.
Under Britain's parliamentary system, the leader of the party with a majority in the House of Commons becomes Prime Minister without a general election. The next general election is expected in 2029.
