At a review conference held on Thursday, the provincial Steering Committee for the Search, Recovery and Identification of Fallen Soldiers' Remains assessed progress in implementing the campaign across the province.
According to the Ca Mau provincial Military Command, careful preparation, extensive public awareness efforts, and information provided by local residents and war veterans on the burial sites of unrecovered martyrs have significantly advanced the search. The province has also digitized data on martyrs' graves, creating a comprehensive database to facilitate the interpretation of grave symbols and guide field operations.
To date, authorities have completed the excavation of 263 unidentified graves at the Tran Van Thoi Martyrs' Cemetery, collecting 237 sets of remains. The samples have been transferred to the Ministry of Public Security's Institute of Criminal Science for DNA analysis to help establish the identities of the fallen.
The conference also launched a province-wide emulation campaign to further implement the 500-Day Campaign, aiming to build momentum toward achieving its objectives ahead of the 80th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day on July 27, 2027.
