The agreement was announced by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Friday as part of the new Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
The new route includes up to 14 weekly passenger-and-cargo flights per country, as well as up to seven weekly all-cargo flights per country. All cargo flights will be granted fifth freedom rights (the ability to operate flights between two foreign countries if the flight either starts or ends in the airline’s home country.)
Vietnam is one of Canada’s largest and fastest growing air markets in Asia, and its biggest trading partner in ASEAN. The two countries share strong people-to-people ties, with a Vietnamese Canadian community of approximately 275,000 people, generating growing demand for tourism, business, education, family travel, and air connectivity.
The expanded air connectivity is expected to facilitate travel and cargo transportation, support business, trade, and people-to-people exchanges between Canada and Vietnam.
