At the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra, Chairwoman of the National Committee on Vietnamese Older Persons, said the Action Month should aim to ensure that most older people receive free health screenings this year, around 80% are able to use popular smartphone applications, and 50% of villages and residential groups have at least one Intergenerational Self-Help Club.
Ministries, sectors and localities should pay particular attention to disadvantaged older people and those living alone and in remote and mountainous areas. Favorable conditions should be created for older people to continue working, pass on their skills and experience, and contribute to the community.
Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra said: “Work for older people must be integrated into the overall strategy for socio-economic development, human development, and social security. Party committees, authorities, agencies and organizations at all levels must fulfill their responsibilities. Every family must be a warm home where older people are loved, respected and cared for. Every citizen has a responsibility to promote the Vietnamese tradition of “respecting the elderly and honoring longevity”.
