Ahead of a donor conference in Brussels, European Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Suica said the funding would be used to clear conflict debris and restore essential services, including water supply, sanitation and waste management.
She stressed that the immediate priority is ensuring aid reaches the people of Gaza. While donors are eager to launch the early recovery phase as soon as possible, Suica said the disarmament of Hamas remains a key condition for moving toward large-scale reconstruction.
The European Commission also said that during her recent visit to Israel, Commissioner Suica reached an agreement with Israeli authorities on steps to implement two major projects in Gaza focusing on water management and waste treatment.
