According to the Vietnam section of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY), this is the first time in the award’s 70-year history that two Vietnamese candidates have been nominated—an important milestone for bringing Vietnamese children’s literature to an international audience.

Established by IBBY in 1953, the Hans Christian Andersen Award is presented every two years and is often described as the “Nobel Prize” of children’s literature.
